Project Title: Vision processing algorithms for Bionic Eye Gen3
Bionic Vision Technologies (BVT) has developed an innovative Bionic Eye Prosthetic System to restore functional vision to the blind suffering from retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
Pilot studies using prototype systems in 7 RP patients - characterized as having near total blindness - demonstrated safety as well as significant improvement in obstacle avoidance and object recognition.
The goal of this project is to develop and test new vision processing algorithms and hardware that will result in improved ability to navigate and conduct activities of daily living, improved independence, confidence, social connectedness and an enhanced mental state of mind.
