Cynata Therapeutics Ltd is an Australian stem cell and regenerative medicine company developing a therapeutic stem cell platform technology, Cymerus™. Using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology, the Cymerus process can produce effectively limitless numbers of MSCs from a single blood donation. This avoids problems associated with conventional MSC production methods, including donor to donor variability and loss of potency due to excessive MSC culture expansion. Cymerus™ MSCs have demonstrated significant efficacy in various preclinical models, and a clinical trial in patients with graft versus host disease is currently recruiting patients in both Australia and the UK. This is the first clinical trial worldwide involving systemic use of iPSC-derived cells.
