About IMNIS

The Industry Mentoring Network in STEM (IMNIS) is a national Industry-led mentoring initiative of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE), linking PhD students in STEM with experienced industry mentors. Officially launched in 2015, IMNIS has successfully piloted in multiple universities in three states and was recognised with a prestigious B/HERT Award in 2016. Working with expert academic and industry leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), IMNIS connects PhD students (mentees) with motivated, commercially-aware industry leaders (mentors).

Mentors and mentees meet in person in a professional setting for one hour each month for 12 months. State-level networking events hosted by IMNIS allow mentors and mentees to mix and mingle, and connect more broadly. IMNIS provides PhD students the opportunity to increase their understanding of the industry sector, learn the skills they need to develop to be successful within any part of the STEM sector and extend their professional network. IMNIS provides a diverse range of industry professionals the opportunity to engage with academia and ‘give back’ to the STEM community.
