Sector Supported Events

In November, the MTPConnect team supported the 20th Science Meets Parliament event in Canberra. It was a wonderful opportunity to promote our sector and the science and STEM more broadly to Senators, MPs and senior government officials.  In Perth, the MTPConnect WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub partnered with CSIRO’s Ribit to host a forum for PhD students, early-to-mid-career researchers and post-graduates to connect with industry leaders and consider  career options.

Antimicrobial Resistance workshop

In recognition of World Antibiotic Awareness Week (18-24 November), Dan joined Australian Chief Medical Officer Professor Brendan Murphy and industry leaders to open our Antimicrobial Resistance workshop in partnership with Biointelect in Canberra. AMR is one of the biggest threats to human health, but with partnerships, collaboration and innovation we can tackle it. Watch this space for more on our sector response in 2020.

Our Chair, Sue MacLeman represented the sector at the Services Exports Roundtable at Parliament House hosted by the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham. The Roundtable discussed ways to support Australian businesses to go global, removing barriers facing exporters abroad and simplifying regulation.

MTPConnect Podcast

The MTPConnect podcast series continues to secure exciting guests and so far, we have produced 38 episodes. The team sat down with Arthur Sinodinis AO, who’s preparing to take-up his posting as Australia’s next Ambassador to the United States. Given the centrality of the US to our sector, he’ll be a key stakeholder for all us in that market and it was great to get his views on the future of genomics, regenerative medicine and so much more about our sector. Subscribe to our podcasts to check out what he had to say, as well our interviews from the 2019 Bridge Program Symposium, our Movember prostate cancer research episode with Monash University’s Biomedicine Discovery Institute. We also take you to meet some of the experts and project teams who recently presented at our BMTH Program’s Value-Add Day in Melbourne.

New Team Members

This month, we welcomed two new members to the MTPConnect team. Jenny Devlin has joined us as Executive Assistant to the Managing Director & CEO, and is based in our head office in Melbourne. Dr Gerard Gibbs has joined us as Senior Director of the BioMedTech Horizons program, and will also be based in our head office in Melbourne.
