Why Australia is the Destination of Choice for International Medical Device Clinical Trials

With the 2020 Virtual Medtech Conference kicking off in Toronto next week, together with Austrade we are hosting a special webinar for US and Canadian medical device companies who may benefit from running clinical trials in Australia.

The session will explore ‘Australia as a medical device trial destination: Maintain momentum in your clinical development program’, on Tuesday, 6 October 8-9am Australia AEST (Monday, 5 October 5-6pm EDT Toronto).

With a particular focus in cardiovascular health, the webinar will be of interest to international medical device companies planning to run clinical trials in the next 18 months, and for company executives, clinical trial managers and device designers.

Joining us is The Honourable Peter McGauran, Australia’s Consul-General and Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner to Houston, Texas USA. Mr McGauran took up the position in January 2018 after a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors in Australia and leads Austrade's Americas Healthcare Sector Team.

MTPConnect MD & CEO Dr Dan Grant will discuss the clinical trials landscape in Australia and the impact of COVID-19 on maintaining research momentum.

Most recently, Prof Jason Kovacic was the Professor of Medicine & Acting Director of the Mount Sinai Cardiovascular Research Centre in New York, USA. Prof Kovacic now leads the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Sydney Australia. He will discuss the opportunities for international collaboration in early phase medical device trials.

The Australian Cardiovascular Alliance (ACvA) is Australia’s peak leadership body for the advancement of heart, stroke and vascular disease research and Professor Gemma Figtree will discuss the opportunities specifically for cardiovascular medical device trials. and first-in-human / early phase device trials.

Mr Falko Thiele from BIOTRONIK Australia will share the company’s experience as a multinational medical device company (German HQ) running clinical trials in Australia.
