Major Funding Boost for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Research

With the Minister for Health and Aged Care, Hon. Greg Hunt MP, MTPConnect announced a funding boost of $38 million through our Targeted Translation Research Accelerator (TTRA) initiative for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This substantial injection of funding will support whole-of-sector coordination to maximise the development and translation of specific, highly promising research projects and establish two new research centres.

TTRA Programs Open – Call for Expressions of Interest

MTPConnect called for expressions of interest for two new Research Centres ($20 million allocated) and the first round of Research Projects funding ($18 million allocated and $6 million available in this round). Round one of the TTRA Research Projects EOI close on 22 February 2021, and the TTRA Research Centres EOI close 15 March 2021.

The MTP sector was invited to attend two TTRA Information Session webinars on Research Projects (19 January 2021) and Research Centres (20 January 2021)  to learn more about the different funding opportunities and how to submit applications.

For the Research Projects session, the audience heard from MTPConnect’s Managing Director and CEO Dr Dan Grant, TTRA Senior Director Lauren Kelly, and TTRA Director Dr Mana Liao about the priority areas, submission process and preparing an application. TTRA program partners ANDHealth’s Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer Grace Lethlean, MDPP’s National Program Manager Olivia White and UniQuest’s Senior Director QEDDI Dr Andrew Harvey joined the discussions and assisted with a live QA segment was facilitated.

For the Research Centres session, the TRA Expert Advisory Board Chair Prof Ian Frazer AC FRS joined MTPConnect’s Managing Director and CEO Dr Dan Grant, TTRA Senior Director Lauren Kelly, and TTRA Director Dr Mana Liao to outline the priority areas, submission process and provide relevant information about preparing an application. An extensive live QA segment was facilitated.

REDI Industry Fellowship Program Is Open

Our REDI Fellowship Program is providing up to $250,000 per Fellow, per annum, for up to 40 industry Fellowships giving Australian MTP companies the financial support to bring academics and clinicians in-house for up to twelve months to work on priority medical research projects. The grant covers/contributes to salaries and on-costs (including superannuation) for the period of the REDI Fellowship. Additional costs, such as relocation costs, may be covered if there is a requirement to relocate. Industry sponsors are encouraged to apply now.
