If you want to keep on top of medtech, pharmaceutical and digital health (MTP) innovation projects, Health Horizon Projects Tracker live feeds allow you to do just this. This new tracking feature is now on our website for you to follow the progress of BioMedTech Horizons-funded (BMTH) projects and all Western Australia-based MTP projects – not just those awarded funding through our funded programs.

An Australian-first, Health Horizon is an online data tracking platform that follows the progress of health innovations around the world in real time. Health Horizon began as an innovative idea that MTPConnect supported through the Growth Centre Project Fund in 2017, funded through the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources (DISER).

Searchable, trackable, publicly accessible information

Director BMTH Program, Corporate Reporting and Risk Management at MTPConnect, Elizabeth Stares, said the Health Horizon project set out to develop a searchable, trackable, public pipelines platform for medtech, pharmaceutical and digital health innovations.

“The project ultimately catalogued and tracked publicly exposed MTP and Digital innovations under development in Australia and, within a year, provided publicly and globally accessible information that is kept up to date using a humanised machine learning system.

“It’s great to see the Health Horizon platform now operating as a commercial enterprise.  MTPConnect is now a ‘customer’, using the platform to provide valuable and effective live feeds for BMTH stakeholders and WA-based Life Sciences stakeholders,” Ms Stares said.

Tracking 6,000+ innovation activities globally

The Health Horizon platform now has more than 4,000 users tracking 6,000 innovation activities around the world.

So, MTPConnect is in good company employing the live feeds to showcase its innovation programs – also onboard are Pfizer, Abbvie, Aspen Medical, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, GPN Vaccines and other companies, universities, and research institutes.

Understanding BMTH grantees development journeys

Senior Director, BMTH Program at MTPConnect, Dr Gerard Gibbs, said the Health Horizon Project Tracker offered great benefits for all BMTH-funded project teams.

“We provide channels to all grantees of our BioMedTech Horizon's program, so they can act with a heightened awareness of their competitive ecosystem. Channels also help us to understand the development journeys of each of our grantees so we can better support them,” Dr Gibbs said.

Showcasing innovations successfully for WA Life Sciences

With plenty happening in the MTP sector in Western Australia, a separate tracker has also been set up to monitor the progress of WA innovations state-wide.

Director Stakeholder Engagement WA for MTPConnect, Dr Tracey Wilkinson, said covering all the innovations from the sector via the Health Horizon live feed is a bonus for everyone involved.

“I keep an eye on what’s happening in this sector in WA and being able to track the progress of all health innovations in our state via the Health Horizon Live Feed on our website is a real benefit for us here in the west.

Health Horizon – good at identifying early-stage innovations

“The other thing that Health Horizon does well is identify early-stage innovations that are at the beginning of their commercialisation or translation pathway. So, I’m particularly excited about the opportunity to be able to connect these innovators with assistance and support from the MTPConnect WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub.

“Even with great distances involved and different time zones across Australia, we are able to easily showcase WA life sciences and medtech innovations to anyone who is interested, within Australia and around the world,” Dr Wilkinson said.

The Health Horizon Project Tracker live feeds allow you to see project milestones immediately and you can sign up to ‘follow’ a project’s progress, like the way you follow accounts on social media.
