Applications are now open for the Australian Clinical Entrepreneur Program (AUSCEP). The Program has been co-designed by clinicians for clinicians and aims to develop entrepreneurial skills and networks to build better healthcare.

AUSCEP is being delivered by the University of Melbourne and the University of Western Australia partnership, made possible through MTPConnect’s Researcher Exchange and Development within Industry (REDI) initiative supported by the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF). AUSCEP is based on the highly successful UK NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme.

AUSCEP is a competitive, fully subsidised 12-month training program specifically designed to accelerate healthcare innovation. Through training, mentorship, and industry collaboration the program will equip participants with the knowledge and networks necessary to translate innovative ideas into solutions with impact.

There will be two 12-month cohorts of this program, the first of these now being open for applications with the deadline of Monday 8 August 2022.

The Program is open to any AHPRA registered clinician (public or private provider) in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia, with an innovative idea/product/service – at any stage of development – that could benefit the Australian healthcare system.

A course information session, ‘The Innovator vs The Researcher: two different perspectives on the clinical entrepreneur journey’, will be held on Tuesday 26 July at 7:30pm AEST. Register for the webinar now.

Western Australia’s Acting Minister for Medical Research, the Hon. Paul Papalia MP, said in a statement: “Western Australia's participation in the Australian Clinical Entrepreneur Program, is supported through the McGowan Government's Future Health and Research Innovation Fund. This innovative program will help develop solutions which will improve health outcomes for patients and healthcare providers.

"Making programs such as AUSCEP available to WA clinicians will help retain talented staff, by not only supporting their entrepreneurial ambitions but by providing a pathway that helps them fulfil their vision,” said Mr Papalia.
