MTPConnect supported the Science and Technology Australia's Science Meets Parliament National Press Club Address by Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic: “Believing in science and acting on science: revitalising science frameworks in Australia”.

In this Sold Out press club address last week in Canberra, the Minister outlined the essential role science plays across Australian society, celebrating the achievements of Australia’s science community and setting out a vision for science under the Albanese government. He also announced the appointment of Professor Alex Brown to the CSIRO Board. Alex is the Professor of Indigenous Genomics at the Telethon Kids Institute and The Australian National University and also a member of our TTRA Indigenous Advisory Group.

Prior to the Minister’s broadcast address, our Chair Jaala Pulford made opening remarks to the room full of journalists, researchers, scientists and representatives from the medtech, biotech and pharma sector.

We also supported the ‘Advancing the SABRE Alliance’ gathering to connect biotech, research & industry capabilities with Defence to safeguard Australia. Our former Chair, Sue MacLeman, appeared on the panel remarking that we are in a new dawn of biotech with new technologies emerging like synthetic biology making it the right time for industry to connect more directly with Defence Australia on Australia’s biosecurity challenges. We were also on hand recording interviews with some of the key stakeholders for an upcoming podcast episode. Stay tuned!
