A National MedTech Accelerator to create a dedicated commercialisation infrastructure to leverage Australia's existing industry and research capabilities in the acceleration of new high-value, niche advanced manufacturing and medical device technology development opportunities through a focused, 15-month program.
The core principles of The Actuator are to provide a centralised pathway for promising emerging medical technologies within Australia's publicly funded research institutes. Demand exists from capable local participants; providing a system for commercial pathways for early-stage emerging technologies can be accelerated via structured mentorship, training, investment and access to markets.
Over the last 24 months, STC Australia designed 'The Actuator', a dedicated commercialisation infrastructure to leverage Australia's existing industry and research capabilities. This will allow the acceleration of new high-value, niche advanced manufacturing and medical device technology development opportunities through a focused, 15-month program. The Actuator concept is adapted from proven accelerator and technology transfer models (born out of the ICT sector) already in place (and successful) in many locations around the world.
The Actuator aims to: expedite technology transfer and research translation; create a dynamic workspace environment; provide a mentorship program; drive agile product development; de-risk early stage ideas; stimulate the startup ecosystem; and bring together industry and stakeholder groups to pool efforts and increase impact.
The Actuator project will also include a National MedTech's Got Talent competition that will recruit, assist, mentor and pitch undergraduate student projects to a national audience.
