About the Event

The convergence of knowledge and skills across scientific disciplines is resulting in new insights that challenge long-held beliefs. In the fields of health and medicine, this approach is resulting in new discoveries that are delivering new care and treatments.

As a relatively young field of science, psychology is an inherently innovative field, converging philosophical, health, and social sciences to improve our understanding and enhance the effectiveness of the human mind. The Monash Institute of Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences (MICCN) is at the forefront of psychological research and the translation of it into inventive practices.

This event will be a showcase of innovative new pursuits in psychology, using new technologies to engage with people and enrich their lives. Three leading scientists will discuss their research that has been successfully translated into new technologies and treatments delivering improved health and wellbeing. The event will conclude with a panel discussion and engagement with the audience.

THE SPEAKERS

Professor Kim Cornish, Director, Monash Institute for Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences (MICCN), Head, School of Psychological Sciences Deputy Dean, Biomedical and Psychological Sciences.

Dr Rene Stolwyk, Senior Lecturer and Clinical Neuropsychologist based at the Monash Institute for Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences.

Mr David Bakker, is a final year PhD student in Clinical Psychology at Monash University. He is the current Entrepreneurship Ambassador for the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences and he is on the research team responsible for developing mood-tracking smartphone app MoodPrism and has developed his own app, MoodMission, to help users deal with low moods and anxiety.

Dr Buzz Palmer, is one of Australia’s leading and most visible voices in entrepreneurship and MedTech innovation. Buzz is the CEO of STC Australia, founding partner in Dialectica, serial entrepreneur and inaugural Professor & Executive Director of Entrepreneurship at Monash University.
