About the Event

SA Insights: Featuring Professor Helen Marshall Leading the world’s largest herd immunity study & influencing vaccine strategies globally.

About this event

Join Jo Close, Director of the Adelaide Intermediary Program as she hosts MTPConnect’s SA Insights Series. Jo will be joined by Professor Helen Marshall, 2022 SA Australian of the Year, for a one-on-one fire-side chat.

Professor Marshall will share insights into leading the world’s largest herd immunity study, a gold standard randomised clinical trial sponsored by GSK that saw nearly 35,000 young South Australians vaccinated against invasive Meningococcal disease in 2017/18. She will explain the ingredients that led to her international partnerships, why South Australia was identified as the best place in the world for this clinical research activity and how she aligned diverse capabilities across SA to rapidly deliver results – led from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and The University of Adelaide.

Helen will also speak about the important roles she has played in influencing vaccine strategies across the globe, from her involvement in SA’s COVID-19 response working alongside SA’s Chief Health Officer, Nicola Spurrier, and her long-term engagement with the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) to her involvement with the international COVAX accelerator making decisions on the best vaccines for pregnant women globally.

At the heart of Helen’s insights, you will learn where her drive and passion came from early in her career – and what she plans to do next!

This event will be followed by an opportunity to network over drinks and nibbles.

Who should attend:
