Senator Michaelia Cash announced as Minister for Jobs and Innovation

19 December 2017

Senator Michaelia Cash has today been announced as the Minister for Jobs and Innovation, following three months as Acting Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, and Senator Zed Seselja who has been announced as Assistant Minister for Science, Jobs and Innovation. MTPConnect congratulates the ministers on their appointments, and we look forward to our continued work and collaboration with Senator Cash and the Department to boost Australia’s medtech, biotech and pharma sector.

The announcement comes as Minister Craig Laundy is appointed Minister for Small & Family Business, Workplaces and Deregulation, and Senator Arthur Sinodinos steps down from the Cabinet to continue treatment for cancer.

Through their time in the portfolio, Senator Sinodinos and Minister Laundy have supported the development and announcement of initiatives including the MTPConnect Project Fund Program; investments via the Biomedical Translation Fund; launch of the ‘M2’ precinct between CSIRO, Monash University and Monash Health Translation Precinct; and the Global Connections Fund.

In a statement, Senator Sinodinos said that the Industry, Innovation and Science portfolio has been at the forefront of creating new enterprises and jobs, transforming traditional industries and bridging the gap between science and commercial opportunity, and taking forward the National Innovation and Science Agenda.

We thank both Minister Laundy and Senator Sinodinos for their ongoing support and their contributions to the Australian medtech, biotech and pharma sector; and send our best wishes to Senator Sinodinos and his family.
