Industry Mentoring Network in STEM - Stage 2
IMNIS will recruit an additional cohort of 300 mentees, over 5 States for mentoring in the MTP sector. All previous participants will be invited to join the IMNIS Alumni program, where they will be invited to IMNIS networking and training events, and encouraged to continue their individual development and mentoring.
The project will also establish a pilot of a remote and rural mentoring network, supporting regional students, and offering them the same opportunities as city based students. Three universities will be part of this pilot with the mentoring and training taking place via teleconference or videoconference, supplemented by periodic face-to-face meetings.
Outcomes: This IMNIS program has connected over 477 students from 16 universities to an industry mentor. The rural pilot has been positive, with six mentees from JCU and CQU in Queensland connecting with mentors remotely. 60 mentees have gained employment or internships in industry across both projects. 80% of mentees responding to a survey said that they were keen or considering collaborating with business or industry during their research.
