About the Event

Cicada Innovations is an official partner of the MTPConnect powered REDI initiative.


Subsidised by MTPConnect’s Researcher Exchange and Development within Industry (REDI) initiative, Cicada MedLab Commercialisation 101 is designed to train individuals from across Australia in the fundamentals of research commercialisation.

Through a mix of curated online content, experiential workshops, and mentoring from experts and peers, participants will learn how to identify unmet market needs, understand clinical context, and validate innovative medical technology.

These workshops will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to get you started on the journey of commercialising your medtech or biotech solution.

Workshop Structure

The Workshop consists of an online course, followed by a 2-day facilitated workshop, both cover the fundamentals of research commercialisation. Participants will be able to acquire knowledge online, then apply that learning at the workshops with support from expert facilitators, mentors, with content designed to build capacity in the medtech and biotech sector.

Workshops will also feature guest speakers from The George Institute for Global Health and some experienced residents at Cicada Innovations.

For people who want to learn about medtech and biotech innovation and commercialisation, and how to get started. You can be a:

All you need is an innovative solution in either digital health, diagnostics, devices or therapeutics.

Dates & Locations

Cicada Innovations will deliver Cicada MedLab: Commercialisation 101 workshops across Australia, starting in August 2022.

  • 9th-10th August in Perth
  • 23rd-24th August in Melbourne
  • 6th-7th September in Adelaide
  • 20th-21st September in Sydney
  • 11th-12th October in Brisbane

All workshops will be fully catered and will take place at a central city location.
