2021 has been the worst year on record for ransomware. Globally, we’ve seen a significant shift from data breaches caused by human error to those caused by malicious and criminal attacks. During the first six months of the year, most data breaches in Australia occurred in the health sector.

With the sector already under pressure due to the pandemic, ransomware attacks have had detrimental and costly effects: suspending or hindering business, delaying treatments and compromising patient records. These attacks affect those delivering services as well as companies in the manufacturing pipeline.

This event will explore the definition of a ransomware attack, the reasons behind the recent rise in attacks in the health sector and provide practical advice on reducing your risk. Expert speakers will present the issue through an insurance and legal lens, with a case study about a ransomware attack that occurred at Eastern Health in March 2021.
