The German Technology Service is searching for new, active anti-biofilm agents for the treatment of wound biofilms in chronic wounds on behalf of a German medical technology group.

In particular, the MAIN FOCUS is on new bacteriophage lysins / endolysins, quorum sensing inhibitors / anti-virulents, bacterial iron chelators / siderophore synthesis inhibitors or innovative anti-biofilm agents that are suitable for topical application and can be actively released via a wound dressing. Also of interest are innovative anti-biofilm concepts that combine several active ingredients with different molecular targets.

NOT OF INTEREST are the following active ingredients / classes of active ingredients:

  • PHMB
  • Poloxomer 188
  • Silver
  • Iodine
  • Pyridine
  • Chlorhexidine
  • Lactoferrin
  • Electropharmaceuticals
  • Antimicrobial peptides
  • Phytochemicals
  • Ringer's solution
  • Hypochlorous / acetic acid
  • Melaleuca oil and honey

The goal is the cooperative development and approval of new anti-biofilm agents and the final development of an innovative active wound dressing within the next 3-5 years (class III medical device).

Further details and background information on the inquiry can be found, here.

For Australian companies interested in connecting, please provide a first short expression of interest, a short non-confidential technology / active ingredient description and some references in the form of publications / patents directly to the German Technology service by the 15 May 2020 to the following contact:
